The Sponsoring Member will not be charged in association with James River Day Camp in any way, however, he or she must be aware that you are listing him or her as your Sponsor. This policy allows the club to ensure that all Non-Members attending camp are associated with a Club Member in some way.

Age Range: 4 - 10

All campers must be at least 4 years old by the first day they attend camp. In addition, campers must be potty-trained and able to handle a full day program.

Activities

Each day of camp will be a new and exciting experience for our campers as no two days with KECamps are exactly alike!  Our days begin with Hello Camp, a morning meeting of sorts where, through an assortment of organized activities, campers and staff get to know each other, review the day’s schedule and sing our special camp song! Similarly, we will end our days with Goodbye Camp, a time for wrap-up activities and reflections, SMILE Bands, snacks, and “see you later’s”.   The bulk of camp will be spent participating in a wide variety of activities throughout the day that may include:

Wacky Wednesday

Every Wednesday at camp is a wacky one with a different festive theme – a true highlight of each week! Check out this summer’s Wacky Wednesday Calendar!

Thankful Thursday

We are excited to announce the return of Thankful Thursdays into our camp program! In true camp spirit, every Thursday campers will have the chance to give back to their community by working together on a simple, fun and rewarding community service project. Check out this summer’s Thankful Thursday Calendar!

Lunch & Snacks

The club will provide a delicious and kid-friendly lunch for every camper each day. If you would prefer to pack your own lunch for your child, please do so in a cooler or backpack. A snack will be served each afternoon to all campers. We encourage you to pack some extra snacks for your child as well.

Please note that we are a “nut aware” camp.   We ask that you do not pack any food for your child that contains nuts. Likewise, the lunches and snacks served by the club will not contain any nuts. If your child has a food allergy and you have questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Packing List

KECamps requires all campers to wear our official camp shirt each day of the week. Additional shirts may be purchased at camp. Campers should dress in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Camp is a place to un-plug! Please leave all electronic devices and cell phones at home. Please pack the following items in a labeled bag or backpack:

Meet Your Camp Director

Dear Campers and Families!

My name is Lauren Hancock, and I am so excited to have fun with you this summer! This will be my first year as a director with KE Camps, but I am not as “green” as I seem. I was a counselor last year at Napa Valley Country Club, in Napa, California! I got to spend the summer out in California visiting my family, and I had so much fun working with KE Camps, that I wanted to bring my experience back home with me!

I love working with kids of all ages. My passion began even before graduating high school, when I was a volunteer coach for my swim team. I have also been a summer camp counselor for day camps here and there throughout my college experience. I am a graduate of James Madison University, where I got my degree in Elementary Education. I just finished my sixth year of teaching fourth grade at Nelson Elementary School in Newport News. My favorite subject to teach is math and I love being able to incorporate STEM activities into my classroom. When I am not teaching, I coach a problem-solving team called Odyssey of the Mind. I also love doing crafts, watching movies, baking, and hanging out with my dog and cat!

My absolute favorite activity that we did last summer was Thankful Thursday because I love giving back to others and doing things to make people smile. My favorite event was Alex’s Lemonade Stand, because we got to serve delicious lemonade and make money for an amazing organization. Another of my favorite activities was Iron Chef, I love seeing how creative campers got with the ingredients they had to work with! I also get excited for Minute to Win-It challenges, because I like to see everyone work as a team and cheer on the person competing!

I can’t wait to meet and get to know each and every one of you! I know this is going to be an amazing summer, and I am so excited for it to get started!

Peace & Love,
Lauren
