Activities

Each day of camp will be a new and exciting experience for our campers as no two days with KECamps are exactly alike!  Our days begin with Hello Camp, a morning meeting of sorts where, through an assortment of organized activities, campers and staff get to know each other, review the day’s schedule and sing our special camp song! Similarly, we will end our days with Goodbye Camp, a time for wrap-up activities and reflections, SMILE Bands, snacks, and “see you later’s”.   The bulk of camp will be spent participating in a wide variety of activities throughout the day that may include:

Wacky Wednesdays

Every Wednesday at camp is a wacky one with a different festive theme – a true highlight of each week! Check out this summer’s Wacky Wednesday Calendar!

Thankful Thursdays

We are excited to announce the return of Thankful Thursdays into our camp program! In true camp spirit, every Thursday campers will have the chance to give back to their community by working together on a simple, fun and rewarding community service project. Check out this summer’s Thankful Thursday Calendar!

Lunch & Snacks

The club will provide a delicious and kid-friendly lunch for every camper each day. If you would prefer to pack your own lunch for your child, please do so in a cooler or backpack. A snack will be served each afternoon to all campers. We encourage you to pack some extra snacks for your child as well.

Please note that we are a “nut aware” camp.   We ask that you do not pack any food for your child that contains nuts.   Likewise, the lunches and snacks served by the club will not contain any nuts.   If your child has a food allergy and you have questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Packing List

KECamps requires all campers to wear our official camp shirt each day of the week. Please leave all electronic devices and cell phones at home. Campers should dress in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Additional shirts may be purchased at camp. Camp is a place to un-plug! Please pack the following items in a labeled bag or backpack:

Extra Snacks (Optional)
Flotation Vest: If you know that your child will be classified as a Bogey (our term for Non-Swimmer) this summer or you prefer your child to be classified this way, please pack a flotation vest for use in the Shallow End of the pool.

Full payment is due upon registration.  This includes a one-time non-refundable registration fee of $40 which includes 2 camp t-shirts. We accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover.

If your child has special needs or will require extra assistance while at camp, please contact us before you enroll to discuss!

Meet Your Camp Director

Hello Campers and Families,

My name is Haley Koehler, and I am your director at Camp Elk River this summer! I am so beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to seeing all the amazing things we are going to create and do this summer.

Leading camp is such an important step on my journey. I graduated in May of 2018 from UNC Wilmington with a BA in Special Education. I then moved to Boone to begin a master's program in Special Education, continuing my focus in emotional/behavioral disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. I have worked with children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities over the past few years and I knew moving here I wanted to find a place to flourish with these experiences. I have worked with children in Wilmington, Boone, the United Kingdom, and even Ethiopia! I love diverse experiences where I can learn just as much as I teach. I am currently a one-on-one behavior support in a preschool classroom in Blowing Rock, but I really think I am going to find my niche with KE Camps. Ideally, I would one day like to run my own recreational center for children with autism or children with disabilities.

In my free time, I enjoy eating sushi, drinking coffee, swimming, playing piano, and hanging out with my friends and family. I come from a large and open-minded family, who gifted me with a great sense of community that I aim to bring with me to the workplace. I am a fun loving person, who strives to never be bored! My goal is to instill the same energy in you all this summer. Being a Wilmington, NC native for most of my life, I am a big fan of the beach and being outdoors. The more time in the sunshine for me, the better!

I am really looking forward to being a part of something I can be passionate about, and happy to show up to everyday. I can’t wait for this amazing summer ahead of us!

Looking forward to meeting you!

Haley Koehler
